That when this label is put on jewelry then it should be totally hypoallergenic and should last and wear through the life of the jewelry item. But this is not the case; we have many examples of jewelry being made with thin coatings that are at best have a very short wear life. Under these thin coatings are found some of the most allergic metals used. Metals like Nickel, Nickel silver, German silver, Brass, copper. Even gold and silver are alloys containing other metals and can cause problems. Gold and silver are much too soft to use in their pure state and metals are added to strengthen these metals.
However Hypoalergenic Jewelry can be built from metals that are totally hypoalergenic. Titanium, Stainless steel, Tungsten, Tantalum, Niobium are some of them. There are probably more metals and alloys that are hypoallergenic. Titanium is probably the best choice you can make. This metal is used in surgical implants and is as close to totally hypoallergenic as you can get. Stainless steel is another alloy and is about 95 to 95 % hypoallergenic safe. There are just a small percent that have an allergic reaction to Stainless steel.
You can find jewelry made with titanium from several jewelry makers. I have manufactured a line of earrings from Titanium and niobium for several years and have used most of the metals mentioned. Now if you want to find jewelry made from titanium here is my recommendation.Click here
